Accessibility Statement for Woolpit Parish Council

This accessibility statement applies to the website: https://woolpitparishcouncil.gov.uk

Our Commitment

Woolpit Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard.
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

Compliance Status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible Content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:

1. Non-compliance with accessibility regulations

  • PDFs and Documents: Several documents (such as older Agendas, Minutes, and Policies) are not fully accessible. For example, they may not be tagged to allow screen readers to follow the correct reading order.
  • Images: Some older images or icons may lack appropriate "alt text" descriptions.

2. Disproportionate Burden

We have assessed the cost of fixing the following issues and believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations:

  • Historical Archive: Woolpit Parish Council maintains a significant archive of historical PDFs (such as the Neighbourhood Plan documents and past financial audits). Manually converting every historical document into a fully accessible HTML or tagged PDF format would require a level of staff resource and expense that is disproportionate to the Council's small annual budget.
  • Third-party Widgets: Certain elements, such as external maps or social media feeds, are not under our direct control and may present accessibility challenges.
