We are the local community first responder (CFR) group covering a number of villages based around Woolpit and Elmswell . CFRs are volunteers who are trained by the ambulance service to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work. Our aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives. If a 999 call is prioritised and suitable for a community first responder, the ambulance control will alert the CFR if they are booked on duty and an ambulance is always sent at the same time. Our group is also well supported by two local paramedics and a GP from Woolpit Health Centre. We hold monthly meetings which includes ongoing training and support for all our members. The ambulance service also has a fulltime CFR manager and trainer covering Suffolk.
We are currently looking for new members in Woolpit and surrounding village to expand our group. If you are interested in joining us (even if you can only spare a few hours a month) or just want to find out more, please contact Merv (our group coordinator) on 07909 006496 or you can email us at wentcfr@gmail.com.
