Hello and thank you for reading about our Short Mat Bowls Club.
This sport is a game which we play indoors all year round. Our weekly club sessions take place in the Woolpit Village Hall on Thursdays, from 3:30 pm to 6 pm. We are affiliated to the Suffolk Short Mat Bowling Association and the English Short Mat Bowling Association.
Our members are diverse, ranging from beginners to individuals who have represented Suffolk in the County team playing at National level. We have 2 nationally qualified umpires and 1 nationally qualified coach in the club. Basically anyone can enjoy the sport.
Some members bowl only socially whilst others enjoy competitive matches. We host several all day tournaments throughout the year, some of which have raised funds for the club and others for charity.
At club sessions we have a refreshment break half way through giving everyone the opportunity to socialise.
Membership of the club is inexpensive, currently; £10 to join, £10 annual membership and £3 playing fee for each club session attended. Our coach offers free tuition. We have equipment to which new members can have access before they commit to buying anything. Good quality second hand items are readily available at sensible prices, sometimes through the club but also on the open market.
Come along and have a go.
You will be entitled to attend your first 4 club sessions free of charge. It is advisable to check that any particular club session is going to take place before turning up. Contact Malcolm (see below) to do this.
If you would like to watch the sport played before coming it can be viewed on line.
