Consultation on proposed redevelopment of the Woolpit Village Hall

Saturday 5th July 2025 from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

The Trustees of the Village Hall Charity invite all Woolpit residents to view and comment on their proposed redevelopment of the hall. Architects drawings will be on show.

Feed back from the village residents is vital to the shaping of the future of the village hall.

Suffolk County Council has launched a new survey giving residents the opportunity to shape the future of councils and public services in Suffolk.

It's part of the Government's plan to reshape and streamline councils in Suffolk to save money, reduce confusion and improve public services for residents.

The survey only takes about 10 minutes to complete, and can be done online at https://onesuffolkcouncil.co.uk/residents-survey, by emailing devolution@suffolk.gov.uk or by calling 0345 603 1842 where a member of Suffolk County Council's customer services team can help residents to complete the survey. People can also visit any of Suffolk's 45 libraries to complete the survey online.

The survey asks questions about local democracy - such as how you raise issues that need addressing, local decision making - such as how you might want to get involved and about the specifics of council reorganisation itself.

The survey is open for eight weeks - until 4 August 2025.

A message from Cllr Andy Mellen, Mid Suffolk District Council leader

Your views wanted on local government reorganisation

Suffolk's district and borough councils have just launched a wide-reaching survey inviting residents, businesses and communities to help shape the future of our county.

We want to hear people's views on Local Government Reorganisation in Suffolk - the most dramatic change to local government in 50 years.

The county's five district and borough councils believe this is a fantastic opportunity to transform public services, so they work for all our citizens and communities; and we need you to help us shape them.

We want to work with you to design together how any future unitary councils work most effectively with all our towns and parishes.

20mph for Woolpit Village Centre

As part of the consultation for the writing of the Neighbourhood Plan, residents asked for a 20mph speed limit.

It has taken some years to make progress but at last, and with much thanks to our County Councillor Andy Mellen for his hard work and support, we are now close to achieving our goal.

Suffolk County Council proposes to make an order under Section 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which would be to introduce a 20mph speed limit zone to Woolpit. A copy of the proposal is on the  20 mph page where there is more information.

Greener Woolpit

RETURNING LAND TO NATURE ON WARREN LANE.
In late February and early March, great strides were made by the New Woods for Woolpit team working with Richard Parmee, the MSDC Biodiversity Leader and Will Hardy of the Woodland Trust. Richard and Will arranged for an impressive quantity of hedging plants, little trees, guards, canes and post to be given to Woolpit.
Richard recruited a team from the IT department of BUUK, a national company with offices at Energy House on the Woolpit Business Park to help with the planting. They generously gave us a day of their time to plant something like 750 hedging plants and trees. This work has restored the hedges lost over the years around the edge of the field.
The New Woods team finished the planting over the following week ends by creating more hedging and a stand of 70 trees at the top of the field.
The parish council is grateful to everyone who has given up their time and muscle to this project. Let us hope the summer weather is kind to these plants and that they grow as we hope.
If you are interested in seeing what the field might be like in 10 years’ time, please visit a similar project in Walsh le Willows. It is behind the allotments on Wattisfield Road.

Participants needed for a slot channel trial for electric vehicles

Do you have know someone without access to off street parking who would benefit from a cross-pavement charging solution? SCC is looking for people to participate in a 12-month trial testing a slot channel product.
What is a slot channel and how does it work?
A slot channel is installed into the pavement outside your property to allow an electric vehicle charging cable to be carried within the channel from your property to your parked vehicle, without causing a hazard on the footway. It allows you to charge an Electric Vehicle off your home electricity supply, which is much cheaper than commercial charging costs.
How the trial will work:
Suffolk County Council will fund the channel installation and participants will be expected to provide feedback throughout the trial. Participants will need to have an electric car to charge once the slot channel is installed and a home charger to connect to.
How do I take part in the trial?
Please share this information with anyone that you feel might fit the criteria and ask that they email Josie Taylor at josie.taylor@suffolk.gov.uk if they would like to be considered for this trial.
